Commodity Groups
The HEPCW manages its purchasing function through commodity groups which cover the main areas of expenditure and useage. The commodity groups' remit is to provide a forum of best practice with professional expertise, gathered from all member institutes to meet the needs of its members.
The groups have specialist representatives from member institutes, as well as at least one procurement adviser who will take the role of Group Secretary and who will provide support and advice to the group on procurement matters. Where required, the group will also nominate a member to represent the HEPCW on other regional or national commodity groups to further promote collaborative procurement. These may be of a permanent or temporary nature, depending on the product/service.
The groups meet regularly to consider its purchasing strategy and implement purchasing initiatives. These are reviewed continually to ensure that goals are being realised and the groups continue to grow and provide a good service for its members.
The groups will also provide a platform for exchange of information, from both the procurement and commodity expertise perspective.
